Cdg. Gen. Dhir Shumsher Rana, born 1828, Commander-in-Chief 1879/1884, Western Senior Commanding General 1877/1879, Eastern Commanding General 1862/1877, he had a great hand in founding an English Primary School and a Sanskrit Boarding School in Kathmandu. He had helped Ranadip to become Prime Minister, but real power was vested in Dhir Shumsher for the administration of State Affairs, he married (amongst others) (a), Bada Maharani Rajya Lakshmi Devi, married (b), 1873, Maharani Juhar Kumari Devi of the Kangra Royal Family, died 1916, and had issue. He died 14th October 1884.
