PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The Thikana was an independent kingdom in Medieval India and is the head seat of Sambharia Chauhan dynasty in India. Site of two magnificent forts, Makrana Fort and the grand Mokala (Mokalpur) or Maukala Fort Palace located 10 kms west of Merta City. Makrana is world famous for marble quarries. His queen, Shankara-devi built a shrine to Gauri within the Chandaleshwar temple that Queen Chandala-devi had constructed during Asaraja's reign.
