I see you

In the shadows of the stairwell,

With your smile

Lighting even the darkest 

Corners of the room,

With stories only you

Could tell just right

I hear you

Humming off-key 

In the kitchen,

A spark in your eyes

And a sway to your hips,

Filling your humble home

With the gift

Of your joyful presence

I feel the floor

Where you and your love

Would dance during quiet hours,

Encapturing the stars

And stealing the moonlight

I can taste the tears

Of the heartbreaks

You’ve endlessly fought through,

And sense the deep scars

You proudly wore

As if they were regal crowns

As I turn toward you now,

Your frail body in a chair

Your mind miles away

A soft smile reaches my lips,

And water blurs my sight

You’ll never 

Be who you once were,

My eyes will never see you

Bless this earth again

But you have lived a life of love;

Dancing despite the storms,

Smiling through the heartbreak,

And enduring despite the odds

Your memory and sacrifice will live

Eternally on

So close your eyes and take your rest,

And keep smiling in your endless dreams
