Present - Sofie Roelens (Out-of-Door Academy, 10th Grade)
Past/Future/Present
It is strange to think;
that everyone once was a child,
Coming from two parents,
Rosy-cheeked and omitting a shrieking cry.
And it is strange to think;
That the people I surround myself with today,
Classmates, and old childhood friend,
My sisters, my brothers,
Will all grow old in the end.
They’ll find themselves in the work force,
Tattered after years of dirt.
They’ll retire and sit in a rocking chair,
Watching over their herd.
How strange it is to be:
In the present moment where all
People are still and resting
While the past shines dimly,
And the future, so bright.
