In March of 2025, a new movement emerged: National PoCIS. People of Color in Independent School (PoCIS) groups across the country reached out to one another in an effort to bring our collective energy together in solidarity. What began as informal conversations across regions grew into a shared commitment to deepen and strengthen our work in advancing equity, inclusion, belonging, justice, and joy in independent schools.
The result was powerful. Each PoCIS group is grass-roots at its core, founded and sustained by educators and leaders who are deeply committed to uplifting marginalized voices and transforming school communities. While our regional contexts differ, our purpose is aligned: to support People of Color in independent schools, to foster authentic conversations and professional growth, and to anchor school communities with an ongoing commitment to DEIJ practices.
Our collaboration continues to grow. National PoCIS united on December 5, 2025 as the various PoCIS chapters celebrated a shared event - United in Purpose: An Evening of Community, Justice, and Joy - in our respective regions.
Today, we proudly introduce National PoCIS: a coalition of regional leaders united in purpose, rooted in community, and committed to transforming independent schools nationwide.
