When I first started working on my portfolio back in the spring semester of 2019 I was told I will be writing multiple essays surrounding a single theme which is “the stranger in me”. The very first essay I did was “Who am I” which was not easy to do so. After all knowing who you are is not as simple as it seems. Then in the second, I wrote about my hero who I really got to know even better than before. The third was about places in which we had to think about why we enjoy these places. The fourth was about writing a story about a divide between two forces. Last but not least there was an essay about how Covid-19 has taken the world by storm, and created hard times for us all. Each one of these topics separate in their own way tie into one theme which is being a stranger to the world.
Throughout the course I worked with different types of media players. For example when it came to “Heros And Villians” I interviewed my older sister Karoline on a recording device on my phone, and then inserted into my page so the audience can listen to the interview as well. I even uploaded pictures of places I frequently visited and explained why I enjoy going to those places in “Place Of Mind”. Each topic that I wrote was written using different narrations to explain my writing. In “why the divide” I had to create a story where two factors came a little bit closer. Switching from third to first person was a bit confusing for a while but eventually I was able to grasp the style of it. In the “empathy challenge” I develop a comic that tells a story of covid-19. It was similar to “why the divide” as in story telling but different as a narrative style.
When I started to write in the beginning of the semester I started off a bit shaky when it comes to my writing, but as the semester progressed I started to realize my writing was improving and not just grammar wise. I started to realize several strengths in my writing. One of them was coming up with more things to talk about. Before I had a hard time coming up with more things to talk about, but know I can come up with things to talk about with ease. Also in one of the projects called “empathy Challenge” I was able to draw a comic which was pretty fun since I really like to draw. One last strength that was developed throughout the course was my imagination. When it came to “why the divide” I had to create a story with two sides of an argument. Creating the story was a bit of a challenge, but it was enjoyable when it came to creating characters and there background history. Although the projects where challenging in their own way I belive they are the best works I created so far.
