Karoline J. Carrasco is a 22 year old woman who is currently UIC student studying for urban education. I had the time to sit and interview karoline so i can learn more about here and also get a peek behind the mask. While I was interviewing Karoline I learn many things about her that I never knew. Such as her view on education and how it impacts children from a very young age. When I ask karoline why she choose An urban education major, she answered, “You make a difference in someone else's life even if it's just one person”. While karoline is observing at a school she always sees a child who is struggling with understanding the material, she will step in, and help the student out as much as she can. Once the student understands the material she then feels she made a difference knowing she was able to help someone.
Overall the quality of education to Karoline is the utmost importance when it influence children's development. She believes the best way to increase a child's development is with patience and dedication. Urban education wasn't her first major she choose. The first field she chose was fashion marketing; however, after taking a marketing class it was clear to her that fashion marketing was not the right job for her. After talking about her major I decided to change the subject and talked more about things she enjoyed to better understand her. When I ask what type of music she enjoys she replied by saying “ I like music that i can vibe too” as well as “ I like music that has some soul, R&B, Jazz, blues, and Rock music from the 90s”. Her all time favorite band is “No Doubt” from the late 90s. If Karoline ever were to play a musical instrument it would be the saxophone because “it has a sexier sound to it”. She also loves songs that have bass. “It also sounds sooth” and “ its sooth in a powerful way”. When I asked her what does she like in a music artist, she responded by saying “if the artist cries during their performance, then that's a good artist”.
The next set of questions I asked her was asking her what her favorite tv show she responded by saying New Girl and The Office. She loves New Girl because it is full of satire. The office is full of satire as well ;however, its full of characters who are “smart asses”. Karoline also loves the characters in New Girl. Each character in the show are all different such as Jess “who is bubbly child like teacher, and super empathetic towards people”. There is also Nick “who completely views the world in a very pessimistic way. Lastly there is winsten “who is just there making everybody laugh all the time”. During Karoline free she likes to pick up a book and read. Her favorite book is Breakfast Of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut. The reason why its her favorite book is because in the book it describes how society works, and how racism, wealth, and how they impact towards society and the harm it can bring. She can also relate to the points Vennegut points out because she has similar views.
According to Karoline a perfect day would typically would start of with a work out in order to feel fresh and then a shower to clean the sweet off. Then a trip to the museum, beach, or anywhere fun with weather at its sunniest. Also walking around a forest to enjoy the outdoors, and then a good dinner to end the day. One thing Karoline admires about herself is how stubborn she can be simply because it's needed at times when you need to stand your ground against people. She also admires how she will speak up if someone is doing something wrong. Hard working and perseverance is Karolines strengths. Whenever she is task with an assignment she tries her best to complete it as well as she possibly can. Her weakness is a lack of patience and a perfectionist. When Karoline doesn't do well she can become frustrated and disappointed within herself. The most challenging aspect of her life at the moment is the lack of money. Since college costs are expensive most of karolines paychecks go to paying off debt.
When it comes to overcoming difficult challenges Karoline begins by calming herself down and telling herself “everything will figure itself out.'' overall Karoline finds self-encouraging is the best way how to overcome challenging times. When overcoming challenges Karoline by learning the lesson of each challenge and understanding that patience is required to overcome challenges. In 5 years from now Karoline sees herself teaching a group of kids, and moving out of the state of Illinois. She wants to move somewhere that is warmer and cheaper. The happiest memories Karoline has is mostly memories of driving around while listening to “Frank Cinatra”, or when Karoline will mix her Barbie dolls with my action heroes toys. Overall Karoline felt happiness, joy, and a sense of home. The reason why she keeps the memories so close to her is because family is the most important thing to her. When I ask her what is one thing she doesn't like about society she responded by saying the education system is more of a system rather than education. Also she doesn't like the idea of making goals to make more money instead she tends to prioritize happiness. Furthermore she believes the news she cover other than celebrity lives. It baffles her that how people judge others based on what the media says, and it makes her wonder what does it mean to be humane. Some solutions Karoline provides to elevate or solve these problems is if we paid closer attention to the problems at hand instead of focusing on what celebrities are doing we can solve problems a lot better. Also Karoline suggest to have the media cover important things to report as accurate as possible rather than exaggerating, neglecting, or misinformed information. If Karoline hypothetically speaking was given power to control the world she would give money to third world countries so they would have supplies such as clean water, nutritional food, and better resources. She would also save the ecosystem because global warming is becoming an issue around the world. The amount of Storms have been increasing as well as temperatures rising, icebergs are melting, and different species are becoming instinct at an alarming rate. Karoline would invest money into how to stop global warming, and focus more about saving species from becoming instinct.
When I ask Karoline if she belives in Destiny, or if things happen for reason she replied by saying “to a certain extent”. She belives destiny does exist; however, people have the ability to alter or change their fates into something the person is more accepting of. In Karoline life she belives destiny had a part to play was when she decided to change her major from going to a life full of fashion to a teaching major. After taking a couple of fashion classes Karoline felt a fashion major wasn't for her. Sometime in the future Karoline would love to have a couple of children of her own, but is unsure if she wants to bring children into the world simply because the state of world can be unforgiving. At the end of the interview I felt I have seen a side of Karoline that I have never seen before.
