I had recently bought a ratchet set and needed a dedicated place to store both the ratchet set and thumb ratchet.
The case did not have any space to hold the thumb ratchet and its only mounting locations were to hang from the handle or to place on a shelf. Since I wanted this to be easily accessible and not take up a lot of space, I decided to design a wall mounted hook to hold everything in an organized manner.
October 2020
The final design of the mount could not impede access to the thumb ratchet or the ratchet set.
The mount could not be screwed into the wall. Because of this, 3M command strips were used to secure the mount to the wall.
The ratchet set weighs approximately 20 pounds so the mount would need to support this type of load for extended periods.
Because of the heavy, long lasting load the mount will be subjected to, typical PLA plastic would not be a good choice. PETG was used in this situation
The final mount met all set requirements and is working well. The mount was printed with high support density so that the command strips would adhere well to the plastic. Additionally, the hook the ratchet set rests on was matched to the natural curve of the handle so as to reduce and fatigue stress from a sharp bend in plastic.
