This ensemble is one of the largest I participate in at HPU. This past fall, we performed a Halloween themed concert the included Ghost Train by Eric Whitacre and selections from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Currently, the Wind Ensemble is preparing for a concert of new music in the Spring entitled "Rising." This concert will feature newly composed works as well student compositions that are fresh off the press!
The High Point University Orchestra has performers that are both students and faculty on HPU's campus as well as members from the greater High Point community. Recently, to celebrate the tenth aniversary of the group, the orchestra performed a concert entitled Video Games Live and featured music from videogames such as Final Fantasy, Halo, Undertale, and more. In the Spring, the orchestra is planing to perform The Planets by Holst while also featuring a concerto competition winner.
The Spirit of High Point University Pep Band, more often referred to as SOHPU, performs at most of the athletic events on campus. We mainly support our NCAA Division 1 Women's Volleyball, Women and Men's Soccer, and our Women and Men's Basketball teams. We also play at a variety of University Admissions events, and often travel to support our teams in their post-season tournaments.
As a part of my undergraduate studies at HPU, I spend an hour a week in Mr. Bob Campbell's studio studying solo performance techniques. This semester, I performed the second movement from Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 1 and I am currently preparing the first movement to perform next semester.
I was really missing playing clarinet, so I have begun to participate in the Clarinet Ensemble at HPU. This ensemble plays a wide variety of music from traditional works written by Bach, to more modern works such as arrangements of the Polar Express. In the Spring, the ensemble is preparing for a recital of dance music.
Staring in the Fall 2025 semester, I have begun to participate in more chamber studies at High Point University. Primarily, I played duets with a flute performer both on horn and clarinet; however, I was able to premiere a composition for wind quintet as well. For the department holiday concert though, I was able to participate in a horn quartet. I am enjoying getting to perform music in smaller groups, and work on aspects of music beyond the technical skills.
