Welcome to my ePortfolio! My name is Natalie Denson, and I am studying elementary/special education, music, and neuroscience at High Point University. I love music in all of its forms, and enjoy listening to or creating it whenever I have the chance!
While each individual is unique, we are all united through our ability to feel. If we took a moment to realize that we all feel the same things, we might also realize that we are more similar than we are different. Through music, we have the opportunity to feel what others are feeling and develop empathy. I will connect people through music by performing music that represents things that we are all feeling. By sharing what we are all feeling through music, we will become more kind and connected as a society.
Natalie Denson is a horn player originally from Columbus, Ohio. She is currently attending High Point University in High Point, North Carolina where she is a member of several ensembles including the Wind Ensemble and Community Orchestra. Natalie also enjoys playing mellophone with the Spirit of HPU Pep Band. Recently, she has also made a return to playing clarinet in the Clarinet Ensemble at HPU.
Prior to coming to HPU, Natalie was heavily involved in the music program at her high school; Licking Heights. She was in the band program all four years, as well as spent two years in the theatre department (ensemble roles in Catch Me If You Can, Grease, and The Wedding Singer) and one year in the choir program.
Natalie was also involved in the marching band for five years, where she played clairinet, mellophone, and trumpet before becoming the drum major for her junior and senior year. She credits her love for marching band and mellophone to this program, and hopes to march in Drum Corps International one day.
During the summer her junior and senior years of high school, Natalie was also involved in the Licking County 4-H band. Here, she played horn for both years and was also Field Commander for her first year and a Council Member for her second year.
When not making music, Natalie can usually be found with a book (or her kindle) in her lap and a caramel vanilla latte in her hands.
