Bust Sculpture

Bust Sculpture

One of the biggest projects this year was the surreal bust project. I was tasked with the assignment of creating a bust with some sort of surreal aspect. This project conceptually was the most difficult for me. I could not come up with any ideas. Although after a while, I was able to develop the idea of using lights to create a glowing galactic effect, and I could not be happier with how it turned out! This project was hand built with studio clay and glazed. I also used LED lights and stuffing for the clouds in the head.

The Process

This project is truly the definition of trust the process! If you look through the pictures you can see that this project did not start off the best, and I was scared for the outcome. But as I progressed through the project I could see it starting to improve and had my faith restored. Where the project really started to come together was when I made the holes to bring through the light. I was so happy with the final outcome of this project, especially when I added in the lights, not only did they make it look good, but they also made the project interactive. I am able to change the colors of the lights to whatever I want, and as you walk around the project you can see more and more of the light.
