The Nearpod lesson was the solution for students disappearing from Zoom in the late spring of 2020. We had to teach in blocks and grade one thing each week, but the Zoom fatigue was real. While teaching The Crucible, I went to tech to help solve a problem with tech, and it worked. Students could watch the videos, listen to the recordings, and read the information provided in the slides and respond, answer questions, or even ask questions that I could answer in the next class meeting. Because it was a self-paced learning experience, they did not have to do it in their 7th hour of Zoom class and had the chance to start it and finish it later. They still had to do the work, but letting them do it on their terms was liberating enough that I had 100% participation for this remote, pandemic-teaching lesson.

A little about Nearpod

The app itself is user-friendly and allows instructors to use slides and materials they have already created to transform the learning experience. Users may create original content in this app, and they may also have 'freemium' access to a searchable catalogue of lessons created by Nearpod, Testing Companies, and other Instructors.
