My name is Nasro Abdi, Originating from Kenya, one of Africa's most rapidly developing countries gave me unique opportunities from an early age. At the young age of ten, fate afforded my family and me the blessing to relocate to the United States in pursuit of access to top-tier healthcare and education systems, plus a higher standard of living for our family. While adjusting presented some initial challenges, I eventually became more comfortable with time. As the eldest of six siblings influenced me tremendously by continually striving to be their source of inspiration and mentor they can look up to.
As a Community Health Major, I feel fulfilled and empowered as someone who persevered despite many uncertainties inherent in this path. My educational path has been filled with difficulties and accolades since day one in America. With graduation just weeks away, it is truly astonishing to look back at all the progress I have made along this incredible journey. Living here has taught me valuable social skills that greatly contrasted my initial introverted behavior, a transformation indicating growth. Now I dare to take any opportunity head on full of courage and belief.
Through my encounters, I have been fortunate to come across individuals from diverse backgrounds. In 2019 I had the opportunity to attend a health event. Before the event proceedings, I was always an egomaniac putting my ego ahead of everything and everyone else. After interactions with different individuals, I gained knowledge and the skillset to collaborate with others on projects, as there is a higher probability of a better result when working as a team. Since then, it has aided in my decision-making process, which has seen great openness to different perspectives and the importance of considering them in my decision-making process.
