Compass

You do not need a compass to run a white or yellow course!

  • It's important to develop good map reading skills before learning how to use a compass.

  • Once you advance to orange level courses and higher (where you will orienteer off trails), a compass will be useful in determining direction.

  • Focus on reading the map accurately. Orienteer alongside obvious, linear features (aka handrails) like trails and roads.
