Nashoba Indivisible is a grassroots, volunteer-powered organization founded to serve the Massachusetts towns of Bolton, Clinton, Harvard, Lancaster, Sterling and their surrounding communities. As part of the national Indivisible Project, a network of thousands of local chapters across the United States, we are dedicated to defending democracy, advancing equity, and building a more inclusive society through local civic engagement and advocacy.
Our mission is to promote liberty, justice, and equity for all. We work collaboratively in coalition and solidarity with allied organizations to advocate for progressive policies, hold elected officials accountable, and build political power from the ground up. We aim to fight the right-wing takeover of government and defeat anti-democratic forces, cultivating an America where everyone can participate fully and freely in civic life.
Inclusion: We actively seek to include individuals from all backgrounds, identities, and perspectives. Our work is grounded in the belief that meaningful participation means welcoming and uplifting diverse voices.
Respect: We foster an environment of tolerance and fairness, honoring the intent and ideas of all participants and encouraging constructive dissent in pursuit of shared goals.
Nonviolence: We channel our passion for democracy into peaceful, constructive actions, respecting the safety and dignity of all.
Equity and Justice: We stand strongly against all forms of hatred, racism, misogyny, bigotry, nationalism, and discrimination. Our pursuit of justice is ongoing, recognizing that a better world requires persistent and collective effort.
Democracy: We champion the right and ability to vote in free and fair elections. We support campaign finance reform to ensure our representatives reflect the interests of their constituents, not corporate or special interests.
Accountability: We monitor and hold elected officials to high standards, advocating for bold, positive action and opposing measures that restrict the rights or well-being of our communities.
Nashoba Indivisible believes democracy is not a spectator sport. Our activities focus on:
Educating Ourselves and Our Community: We host events, discussions, a book club, and workshops to increase awareness of issues affecting our daily lives, fostering a culture of civic responsibility. We also have a weekly newsletter.
Building Coalitions: We support and work alongside organizations aligned with our values, creating a stronger, united movement for social change.
Electing Responsive Leaders: We work to elect officials who prioritize tolerance, equality, and opportunity, rather than division or favoritism.
Advocacy and Direct Action: Through rallies, postcard-writing campaigns, meetings, and mobilization, we make our voices heard on key issues facing our state and nation.
Accountability: We meet with representatives, build public awareness, and offer support or constructive criticism to encourage better governance and progress.
Nashoba Indivisible was organized in response to growing threats to democracy and social equity, recognizing the unique power of local action. We continue to evolve as our community’s needs change, always holding true to our foundational values of inclusion, nonviolence, and justice.
We invite all concerned citizens and residents of our community to join us in making a positive impact. Whether you are new to activism or a seasoned advocate, your voice and talents are vital. Together, we are building a movement for justice, equity, and democracy that will carry us forward.
