School based mental health

 

What is School-Based Mental Health (SBMH)?

SBMH builds on existing school programs, services, and strategies. This service focuses on all students, regular ed, special ed, emotional/learning support etc. The system of care initiative focuses on a service delivery approach that builds partnerships to create a broad, integrated process for meeting the multiple needs of children and families. This preventative model includes the use of social-emotional modalities and designated teams to review students’ needs and is based on the following core values: ■ Family driven ■ Youth guided ■ Cultural and linguistic competence ■ Individualized and community based ■ Evidenced based ■ Team approach ○ Services include: ■ Individual therapy ■ Family therapy ■ Group therapy 

 

 

 

About me

Anna Meighan (she/her) is in her fourth year as a school based therapist with North Allegheny School District. She works full-time with children and adolescents across many of the buildings in the district. Anna is a Licensed Professional Counselor and received her Master's Degree in 2015 from Chatham University. Anna has 10 years experience in the mental health field and spent time working in programs including: IBHS (wraparound), partial hospitalization, outpatient, and residential treatment. In her free time, you can find Anna having a coffee with her family, teaching tap dance, exploring parts of the city, or listening to true crime podcasts.
