Our primary research efforts are in micro/nanostructure design, fabrication, characterization, and modeling, advanced light-based instrumentation & automation, precision measurements, and data interpretation.

Advanced spontaneous Raman spectroscopic imaging microscope

Both standard confocal Raman system and home-built high-throughput systems employing line scanning and arbitrary pattern multi-point system based on spatial light modulation are available. The primary laser is a 3W Ti:Sapphire (Spectra-Physics 3900S) pumped by a 10W DPSS laser (Spectra-Physics Milennia X).

Multi-modal non-linear laser spectroscopy and imaging

Stimulated Raman scattering two-photon fluorescence and pump-probe imaging capabilities are enabled by a 100-fs 80MHz Ti-Sapphire oscillator (Spectra-Physics Mai-Tai) and an optical parametric oscillator (Inspire OPO), Intensified CCD camera (Princeton PIMAX4), and a lock-in amplifier (Zurich Instruments).

Fluorescence and total internal reflection fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy

Two brand-new Olympus IX-83 with full software suite for highly automated image acquisition and precision repeats, top-of-the-line objective lens (100X 1.5NA oil, 60X 1.2NA water, 40X 0.95 NA air, etc). CellTIRF provides 4 channel multiplexing TIRF with independent angle control. Multiple high-performance EMCCD and sCMOS cameras.

UV/VIS/NIR spectroscopy

Wavelength range: 300-3000nm (Shimadzu 3600) with standard sample holder, integrating sphere accessory, and specular reflectance accessory.
