(Insert aquatic creature here)-Person is one of my original species. If you ever saw something similar, I assure you it is just a coincidence and not intentional.
(NOTHING listed here makes part of some kind of closed species. You can create your own (Aquatic Creature)-Person for free. Of course, you can commission me to design one for you, but it is not necessary.)

The sea always is hiding secrets. This always caught the attention of a certain group of mages, more than 10 centuries ago. With their magic, they became one with the wild life, fusing their human characteristic with the native species characteristics. Over time, they adapted better to the wild life, they discovered new species, buildings, and most importantly, started to expand their domains and the quantity of their people. The sense of union and community is what made them thrive.
Today the only thing that remain of these mages and their people are ancient writings and tales, as their descendants now lives on the "world" they created back in the past. As the time passed, they started to lose a bit their sense of community, acting more like animals, even though they still had humanity. What was all united, now is divided, based by their species, diet and level of agression.
They still are considered magic creatures, but they can't cast spells. What their limited magic can do is allow them to transform into their animal form and slowly regenerate injuries and even lost limbs;
Since they are magic creatures, they can live in salt water or fresh water independent of their specie usual "preference";
They have access to some primal technology;
Their economy is very based on trades, so 99% of the folks have some sort of farm or anything that can be farmed, and the ones that don't own one, are "hired" to live there and work for them. And, if none of these options, they go far from society and try their luck on their own. Nature hasn't stopped, the wild life continues reckless and thriving, the only thing that changed is that they aren't irrational anymore. Each one has their own morals and ethics.
Normal sea creatures still exist;
Carnivores species usually are separated from the omnivores and herbivores, but they are not separated by some type of authority, they do this by choice (altough it does exist the ones that are brave enough to defend others). But, this doesn't stop them from invading each other's territory;
Most crustaceans aren't quite humanoid like the rest of fish and aquatic-mammals species. You could say the same about mollusks. Though it is rare to find one that has a more humanoid appearance like the rest, it is not impossible.

Characteristics:
The ones that are based on fish species have a lifetime of 40 years above, most of times less.Β Mammals have a lifetime of 55 above, it depends of it species.
Fish based species are considered to be major of age when they reach 8 years old. To mammals species, 16.
They have 4 fingers and no nails, but their fingers are a bit pointy;Β
They don't have eyelids, only mammals;Β
They'll ALWAYS have at least some characteristics from their species, like the patterns, fins, colors, tail, etc.;Β
They can carry huge quantities of things that usually are considered heavy, all thanks to buoyancy;Β
Their "hair" feels like a glob. It's bouncy, shiny, and doesn't tear apart, like if it is glued together, or like a jello if you will. Mammals have hair more similar to human ones, like they actually have strands of hair, though they still have a weird texture;Β
Waist down it will always be a solid color of black, and their feet doesn't have fingers. Their calf is usually very big because of the efforts that are constantly made to swim in humanoid form;
Their human-like features do slow down their swim, but there are ways of gaining speed, these being putting your ankles together to swim like a mermaid, or simply changing into animal-form. And, the most unusual, if they are skilled enough, they are also able to transform only their waist down into their fishtail, like a mermaid.
