Welcome to my website! I am Dr. Nandhini Raju, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tennessee Technological University and the Director of the ASTRA Lab (Advanced Systems for Thermal Research and Applicaitons).
My research lies at the intersection of additive manufacturing, heat transfer, turbomachinery, and advanced characterization techniques. I am passionate about developing next-generation thermal management technologies for aerospace and energy systems by integrating innovative manufacturing methods with experimental mechanics and data-driven engineering. My work combines advanced diagnostics—including neutron and X-ray techniques—with thermal-fluid experiments to better understand material behavior and improve the performance and reliability of engineering systems.
Before joining Tennessee Tech, I worked as a Research Engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where I supported neutron scattering user facilities and developed experimental systems for research under extreme environments. My career has also included research experiences at Siemens Energy, the Singapore University of Technology and Design, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and the National Aerospace Laboratories, providing me with a broad perspective spanning academia, national laboratories, and industry.
As an educator, I strive to create a learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and hands-on problem solving. I believe engineering education should empower students to ask meaningful questions, challenge existing ideas, and translate research into real-world solutions.
Through the ASTRA Lab, I aim to build an inclusive and collaborative research community where students develop not only technical expertise but also creativity, leadership, and confidence. I welcome collaborations with researchers, industry partners, and students who share a passion for advancing aerospace, energy, and manufacturing technologies.
Thank you for visiting my website. I invite you to explore our research, publications, teaching, and opportunities to join the ASTRA Lab.
