Advanced Systems for Thermal Research and Applications (ASTRA)

ASTRA Lab is a multidisciplinary research group in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Tennessee Technological University. Directed by Dr. Nandhini Raju, the laboratory integrates thermal-fluid science, advanced manufacturing, materials characterization, neutron-based measurements, and computational analysis to develop high-performance engineering systems.

Our Approach

ASTRA Lab connects design, manufacturing, experimentation, characterization, and modeling. Our work aims to translate fundamental understanding into practical technologies for aerospace propulsion, energy conversion, advanced manufacturing, and other high-temperature engineering applications.

Our Mission

Our mission is to advance thermal and propulsion technologies while preparing students to become creative, confident, and technically skilled engineers. We foster an inclusive and collaborative environment that encourages hands-on learning, scientific curiosity, and interdisciplinary research.
