Details of the process of getting IRB approval
for your research study protocol
Before IRB
When you wish to have an IRB approval for your Research study, prepare a complete and detailed protocol.
Once the protocol is ready with approval of your HOD & UG/PG guide, submit one hard copy of the protocol to the member secretary of the IRB.
After primary screening/review, appropriate changes in the protocol might be required, so that the protocol is ready for the full review by IRB.
Submit one hard copy of the final updated protocol. You will be able to check the submission status of your project protocol on the IRB Website.
Wait for the finalization of IRB Meeting. You will be informed about the IRB meeting date along with further instructions.
Before IRB, you need to prepare the presentation for the IRB and submit soft copy file to the member secretary as informed (To guide you, a template for the IRB presentation is available on this website on the "resources" tab. Now we have made it mandatory to use this template only.)
During IRB
On the day of IRB, attend the IRB meeting and present your study protocol. All UG/PG students must remain present with Apron.
Members of the IRB might have questions / concerns which you need to answer. Keeping important references, research evidences & copies of study tool / Informed consent form available with you might be helpful.
For UG students protocol, the faculty guide must remain present to answer any queries which the student are unable to answer / resolve upto the satisfaction of the members of the IRB.
For PG students protocol, their PG guide / Head of the Department / representative faculty (in order of preference) from the department must remain present to answer any queries which the PG resident is unable to answer / resolve upto the satisfaction of the members of the IRB.
At the end of the presentation and discussion on your protocol, your study might
be approved by the IRB OR
be given conditional approval with recommended minor changes OR
be requested for submission / referred to the IEC OR
be rejected in the present format (major changes recommended) and resubmission is advised
After IRB
If IRB has given conditional approval, submit a final copy of protocol with changes. (If final approval is given without any change, then you need NOT submit a copy of the protocol again)
Pay required fees as processing charges for the IRB & collect the receipt from the administrative office
Present the receipt of the fees to the member secretary and collect the letter of approval. Acknowledge the receipt of the approval letter by signing the IRB register. You can also check the approval letter on the IRB website and can download it at anytime afterwards.
Please note: IRB is an institutional mechanism for ethical approval of the dissertation and research study protocol UG/PG students and faculty members of the Institute. We do not accept application from students / researchers from other institutes who wish to collect their research data from L.G. Hospital, the tertiary care hospital attached with Narendra Modi Medical College.
