About Me

I grew up with my two younger siblings in Wiliamsburg, a smaller town in Southeastern Virginia known primarily for Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg, one of the world's largest living history museums. It's also only 15 minutes from Jamestown and Yorktown, two more key sites in American History. As as result of growing up in a such a historically rich environment, I developed a keen interest in and passion for the past, which I increasingly wanted to share with future generations.

I attended High Point University in North Carolina where I studied History and Secondary Education. In 2017 I graduated cum laude with my Bachelor's degree in History after being a member of both the history and education honors societies.

I suffer from a terrible case of Wanderlust and like to travel as much as I can. During college I participated in two separate study abroad programs. My sophomore year I participated in Semester at Sea's spring "Around the World" voyage where I circumvented the globe and visited 13 different countries spanning 4 different continents. Upon my return, the chair of my history department asked me to join a small cohort of students accompanying him to Paris. As a result, I spent 5 months living in Paris , studying at the University of Paris Est Crétil and travelling all over Europe to various historical sites, battlefields, and museums. Outside of study abroad programs, I also visited Tanzania where I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, and French Polynesia. I am currently planning a trip to Spain to hike the Camino de Santiago next.

Back at home, I relocated to Texas shortly after graduation. Now, when I'm not in the classroom, I spend most of my time cuddling my Belgian Malinois fur baby Garrick, his kitty sister Minka, and holding historical and philosophical discussions with my boyfriend as he works towards his Master's degree in History from the University of North Texas and battles leukemia. I also love reading historical novels, watching TV and movies, particularly period dramas, musicals, and anything from Disney. Music plays a very important role in my life as well as I have been singing as long as I can remember. I even did musical theater in high school and had a radio show in college.

Professionally, I am just getting started in the only career field I could ever see myself being in: teaching. I was born to teach. There is zero doubt in my mind about that. As a little girl, I would hold school for my dad in our family room. I also believe that as humans, we are put here on this earth to serve and improve the lives of others in whatever way our gifts and talents enable us to. As a result, I have a heart and passion for service. As I grew up and discovered my passion for history, I realized I could combine my passions and become a history teacher. As soon as I made that decision, I knew it was the right one and have never looked back. I love my students and I love to teach.

I conducted my student teaching at Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, North Carolina teaching post Reconstruction American History to second semester seniors. I also tutored all the way through my college career and was a supplemental instructor for a variety of history classes. After moving to Texas, I substitute taught for Lewisville Independent School District before finding a full time position at Westlake Academy IB World School teaching DP History of the Americas, a dual aligned IB and AP class for juniors, and Grade 8 Humanities, which followed the curriculum of Grade 8 Social Studies.

Being a history teacher is my dream. I look forward to sharing my passion for history, service, and most importantly students with you.
