Heartwarming true stories about the animals we help!
Sugar, Smore, and Crumble are three siblings that were born in mid-2023. Sugar is an energetic ball of fur who loves to play and cuddle those close to him (you should see what he does with a laser pointer!), Smore, while also playful, was more laid back while lacking sugar's lap-cat traits, while Crumble was the "runt" of the three, being the smallest and most anxious of the litter. When we first found these three, they were skinny, unvaccinated, and unneutered--Smore and Crumble both had terrible eye infections that almost blinded them, and Smore specifically developed Eczema on his neck. After a series of veterinarian appointments, though, all three became up-to-date with their vaccinations, neutering's, and the eye infections were cured!
Unfortunately, Crumble sadly passed away in 2023 after being hit by a car: A terrible, yet common lethality for street cats. In 2024, Smore passed away due either a possible car incident or poisoning, leaving Sugar alone with his mother. This is exactly the reason why MYPALS was created: to prevent and put an end to these issues, for they too commonly take the lives of great cats like these. Sugar has since been collared to avoid possible cat-napping.
Sweetie is a single mother of one (formerly three) kitten that we know of. Approximately five years old now, we initially found her when she was two without kittens. In 2023, she gave birth to Smore, Sugar, and Crumble, nursing them up to 8 weeks of age. She became extremely thin and was experiencing hair loss. From there, we decided to get her spayed: A life-saving decision, as she was actually carrying five more kittens despite already having three AND being thin. If she gave birth, Sweetie most likely would have died, killing all dependent kittens in the process. Sweetie is currently up-to-date with her vaccinations and is living peacefully, although she still has some hair loss--nothing some weekly brushing, along with medication cannot fix!
Truffle is a large, unneutered male cat discovered in 2024. He is another possible paternal figure of the three kittens, signified by similarities in fur (black jaw, tuxedo pattern) and frequent visits. He wasn't named until 2025 as he finally became somewhat friendly that year. (Fun fact: Truffle was featured in a past MYPALS before his official naming!) As far as socializing goes, Truffle is not aggressive and gets along with the regular visitors. He too, like Marshmellow, patrols the neighbourhood.
Gus is a fellow neighbourhood stray cat found in 2023. Over the years, he's become more and more friendly towards MYPALS volunteers--now, he shoves his head into our hands when we feed him! He's seemingly unrelated to Sweetie and her family, although is almost always friendly with them. He loves to lay down and relax, and overall isn't that active. He's in good health, and is always fed when he visits!
Sourpatch is a young kitten discovered at the end of 2024. She was named in 2025 after becoming approachable, but as her name suggests--she is one sour kitten! She refuses touch and actively hisses at anything near her, sometimes getting into fights (both serious and playful) with Sugar. Usually though, she tolerates the other cats but opts to be alone. She is missing a few teeth, but that doesn't harm her eating abilities. Despite her sourness, this multicolored kitten can't resist getting fed and cared for! As of August 2025, we believe she may be pregnant, as indicated by bloating in the abdomen, increased food intake, and mood swings (approachable yet feisty).
Similarly to Sweetie, Marshmallow was discovered in 2022, but was not fully under our care until 2023. Marshmallow is an adult unneutered male that is a potential father to the three kittens. He is too anxious to be touched or held, and thus cannot receive direct veterinarian treatment. Adding to this, in 2024, Marshmallow had gotten an eye infection similar to the one the kittens had in 2023, but has thankfully recovered on his own without losing his eyesight or retaining major damage in 2025. Marshmallow is properly fed, and often wonders around the neighbourhood.
Bobby is another large, unneutered male that we discovered in 2023, becoming friendly in 2024. Bobby suffered from minor ear scarring lost half of his tail, likely due to a fight or car accident. Bobby was fed daily and supervised in 2025 where any negative interactions he has with other cats were broken up before they escalate into fights that could harm both felines. Unfortunately, Bobby disappeared after the summer of 2024, and is presumed to have passed or gone missing.
Zouzouni is a three-year old rescue animal that has been officially adopted by the founders of MYPALS. Presumably born in late May of 2022 as a street cat, he was taken into the Babylon animal shelter when he was 2 months old, having gingivitis, fleas, and a lung infection. Prior to his adoption, Zouzouni received proper care and treatment, curing these health complications. After being adopted in September of that year, Zouzouni received annual veterinary treatment and care, and after a few months of dietary issues (likely caused by unknown allergies), Zouzouni happily lives with Alex, our founder.
Stinky was the first animal that we took major care of. When he was first discovered, Stinky was completely disheveled with dirty fur, a palpable skeleton through his skin, and a drooling mouth caused by dental problems. Throughout the summer of 2022, stinky received intensive veterinary care: various visits to get him vaccinated, dental surgery, and even microchipped. In late August, Stinky was brought to Athens from Leros--his home island--and was unfortunately lost. However, his story has a happy ending! A year later in September of 2023, Stinky was rediscovered thanks to being microchipped, lived in rural Athens, and has now been rehomed to the island of Evia where he lives peacefully!
