My Name Is Beautiful
Objective: To promote positive self-awareness and positive cultural awareness.

Activity:
Have children sit comfortably around a teacher. Begin the activity by telling the children that we are going to talk about our names and how beautiful they are. Ask the children questions about the names. i.e., Do you know where your name comes from? Who gave you your name? Are there any grammar marks in your name? Then, use a puppet while reciting the poem. The poem is sung to the tune of “Where is Thumbkin”. Go around the group reciting the poem using each student’s name. After all names have been recited. Ask children if they enjoyed the poem by using a thumbs up or thumbs down.
Assessment: Did children display signs of positive emotion and enjoyment. Were body languages in line with a positive self-image?
Follow Up/ Extended Learning:
Infants: Write child’s name on paper and have them color it.
Toddlers: Use their finger to write their name in flour or sand.
PreK: Gather art supplies and have children paint their name and decorate with glitter, stones, stickers, etc.
