Committees

MWTA Personnel, Policy, and Procedure (3P)

Chairperson: Jacob Gardner

This committee consists of a representative from each building. It shall be concerned with the policies and procedure which affect directly or indirectly the fulfillment of the teacher’s and teaching assistant’s roles. It will prepare materials on non-money items for the Negotiation Committee. The Chairperson will be selected by the MWTA president and will be paid.

MWEA Personnel, Policy and Procedure (3P)

Chairperson:

This committee consists of a representative from each unit of the bargaining agreement. It shall be concerned with the policies and procedure which affect directly or indirectly the fulfillment of each unit’s role. It will prepare materials on non-money items for the MWEA Negotiation Committee. The Chairperson will be selected by the MWEA President and will be paid.

MWTA and MWEA Negotiations

Chairperson:

These committees consist of a minimum of three members appointed by the President for each occurrence of negotiations for improving the welfare of MWTA members. These committees will be paid.

Scholarship Award

Chairperson:

This committee consists of a minimum of five members to adjudge and determine the awarding of annual scholarship(s) to worthy graduating seniors.

Election

Chair:

This committee consists of a Chairperson and the head building representative from each building. The Chairperson shall present, at the May Representative Council meeting, a slate of candidates for the officers and delegates of the MWTA, which will be posted in every building. The election will be conducted on the 3rd Wednesday in May.

“LAP” Committee

Chairs: Katie Oppelt & Maria DeLeo

This committee, modeled after NYSUT’s Local Action Project, shall develop a public understanding of the purposes and programs of the MWTA by encouraging members to participate in organized union and community events. The chairperson of the LAP Committee will be paid.

Legislative

Chairperson:

This committee consists of the elected or appointed (i.e. Committee of 100) delegates who will inform the MWTA of all pertinent education legislation and recommend appropriate MWTA and/or individual actions.

Retirement

Chairperson:

This committee consists of the Retirement Delegate(s) and their alternates for the purpose of informing the MWTA of all pertinent retirement legislation and recommend appropriate MWTA and/or individual action. Delegates represent the District at the annual Retirement Convention.

Constitutional Revision

Chairperson:

This committee studies all areas of the existing MWTA Constitution and By-Laws for the updating of them.

Health and Safety

Chairperson: David Lewis

This committee will monitor and act as a clearing house for issues of health and safety that affect MWTA members. This committee shall communicate directly with NYCOSH (New York Coalition on Occupational Safety and Health) regarding health and safety issues. This committee will meet as needed for discussion of pertinent health and safety issues with the district health and safety co- coordinator to recommend improvements to the district.

Newsletter

Chairperson: Mark Filie

This committee shall publish the MWTA Newsletter at least eight times a year. This committee will consist of editor(s) and a staff which will be paid.

Benefits

Chairperson:

This committee will meet at least twice each year with the District health insurance representative to the District’s health plan to discuss changes in the plan and/or member questions/concerns. They will act as a clearing house for staff input/problems on all benefits subject to collective bargaining. They will provide reports of the meetings and input/problems to the President and Executive Vice President.
