Description of Lesson:

• Orientation [5 mins]-What is 3+4*2= ? Teacher-I am not sure what is the answer. There are two guesses. If 3 plus 4 first, then 7 times 2, the answer will be 14. If 4 times 2 first, then 8 plus 3, the answer will be 11. Then use the calculator to check which one is correct. • Introduction [10 mins] – What is operation means? For example, 7*2 can write as 7+7 or 2+2+2+2+2+2+2. Multiplication is an abbreviation of addition. Thus, 3+4*2=3+4+4 or= 3+2+2+2+2=11. The other way is easily remember that multiplication and division are always performed before addition and subtraction.

Four basic operations

• Instruction

Pairs of student are going to make two stacks cards. One stack cards are operation signs and the other stack cards are numbers (0-18). Each team is going to draw three numbers and two operation signs, and they are going to arrange these in any way they want to make the biggest number they can using the operations they have drawn and the numbers they have.
