The Big Picture: Soothing Inflammation, Naturally
Inflammation is the body's natural response to injury or infection, but chronic inflammation is linked to many diseases and skin conditions. Our lab has discovered a way to produce natural, sugar-based compounds with powerful anti-inflammatory effects. These compounds offer a safe and effective alternative to synthetic drugs for use in cosmetics, skin care, and health supplements.
Our anti-inflammatory products are oligosaccharides—specifically, manno-oligosaccharides (MOS) and chito-oligosaccharides (COS). We produce them using our custom-developed enzymes to break down natural polymers:
Mannan from coconut and coffee waste is converted to MOS.
Chitin and Chitosan from shrimp shells, insects, and fungi are converted to COS.
The resulting oligosaccharides are natural, water-soluble, and highly effective. In laboratory tests using human white blood cells, their anti-inflammatory activity was comparable to that of powerful steroid drugs.
We aim to commercialize these bioactive compounds as key ingredients in a variety of health and wellness products.
Cosmeceuticals: Formulating creams and serums to soothe skin inflammation, itching, and redness from conditions like acne or insect bites.
Nutraceuticals: Developing dietary supplements that help manage systemic inflammation.
Veterinary Products: Exploring applications for reducing inflammation and promoting health in animals.
High-Potency Compounds: Our enzymatic process yields oligosaccharides with exceptionally high anti-inflammatory activity.
Prototype Success: Initial prototypes of topical creams have shown excellent efficacy in relieving skin inflammation and irritation.
Path to Market: Our innovations are currently in the process of being patented and seeking regulatory approval (FDA).
