For this project, I completed a quiz to identify if I am addicted to social media, and then did research on how social media is impacting me and society.
After completing the quiz "AM I ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA?" the results read:
"You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?"
I agree with my results.... sadly, I do feel that I am on social media more than I should be sometimes, and it always makes me fall behind on the tasks I originally needed to complete. Recently, TikTok has been my bad addiction, but I feel there are others on social media/their phones way more than I am.
This stat is the most interesting to me. I'm very shocked to see Pinterest and Instagram above TikTok. I use all of the top 5 apps that it shows here, but wouldn't have put them in this order of most used.
In my opinion, social media's impact on society has been both negative and positive. On the positive end, it allows so many different people from all over to connect, communicate, and share their ideas/life with whoever they want. On the negative end, social media makes this unrealistic mindset/lifestyle that makes people (especially women) think they should have as well or eventually achieve, when in reality, life isn't always like that. A lot of people who are on social media tend to forget that people usually only post or share the positive, happy, amazing things in their lives that they want others to see, and not their everyday life with the ups and downs.
I've learned that I focus too much on the things I see on social media, and try to alter my mindset like others, or I am influenced by what I see, and believe these things are "normal" for everyone. I've realized that I need to cut back on social media so I can stop comparing myself or life to others and just be ME!
