Silver Award
We are Girl Scouts of Troop 33811 and this is part of our Silver Award. The Silver Award is the highest award a Cadette Girl Scout can earn. The purpose of the award is to notice a problem in your community and to find a sustainable solution.Â
For our project, we have decided to pick the lack of Menstrual Education and product availability in schools as our problem to fix. Girls don't always have the available resources or education about their periods.
One of the things we have chosen to do was to create period packs for girls who may find themselves unprepared when starting their period during their school day. We have distributed these packs to elementary and middle schools in our school district. For more information on period packs, check out the "Help Spread The Word" section of our website.
This flyer was created and sent out to our school district for release to students to help stop the misuse of period products. Through our research, we've found that misuse and vandalism is the main reason schools do not stock the dispensers in bathrooms. Educating the students is extremely important so they understand to not waste the products. Then these products can be made readily available to all students who need them.
We worked closely with the school district to encourage installation of menstrual product dispensers in individual middle school bathroom stalls. These dispensers include decals, which were designed by us, to help spread the word about not wasting the products and preventing vandalism.
Lastly, we have created this website to inform girls, caregivers, and friends on how to handle periods and so much more!
