Work Diary
Questions, problems, or something not working? Email ankit.raj105@gmail.com and I'll get back to you. Work Diary is made by one person, so please allow a couple of days.
When reporting a problem, it helps enormously if you include your phone model, your Android version, and what you were doing when it happened.
Writing your first entry. Tap + on the Diary tab. Set the date, the start and end times, and what you worked on. Everything else — notes, category, photos, documents — is optional.
Setting the times. Tap a time to open the picker. Flick the hour and minute wheels; they loop, so getting from 23:55 to 00:05 is one flick upward. Overnight shifts are handled: 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM reads as 4 hours, not a negative number.
The daily reminder. On by default at 4:00 PM. Change the time, or pick which days it fires, in Settings → Daily reminder.
Creating one. Open the Timesheet tab and pick a period — last 7 days, last 30 days, or one of the last three full months. Preview it, then export as PDF or Excel.
What's in it. Every entry in the period grouped by day, with start and end times, hours worked in both hours-and-minutes and decimal form, per-day subtotals, and a total. The decimal column is there because most payroll systems want it.
Sending it. Use the share button. It opens your phone's normal share sheet, so you can email it, put it in Drive, or send it on WhatsApp.
Tap Scan in an entry. The scanner finds the edges of the page, straightens it, and lets you crop, rotate, reorder and retake before you're done. Then you can name the file and check the pages before attaching it.
Scanning needs Google Play services. On a device without them, the Scan tile is hidden.
Set a weekly and a monthly goal in Settings — how many days you aim to log. Any days count. Miss a Wednesday and work the Saturday instead, and the week still counts.
There's no streak to break. A week that falls short simply doesn't count, and the next one starts fresh.
Stats shows how many weeks and months you've hit since you started.
What Pro unlocks. Unlimited photos per entry, PDF document attachments, unlimited document scanning, timesheet export as PDF and Excel, jumping straight to your bookmarked days, and planning tomorrow before you close the day.
What's free. Writing entries, times and hours, categories, notes, the calendar, search, reminders, goals, stats, and one photo per entry. You also get one free document scan and one free timesheet export for each of the three most recent periods, at full quality — so you can judge them before deciding.
Restoring a purchase. New phone, or reinstalled the app? Settings → Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed into the same Google account you bought with.
Cancelling a subscription. In the Google Play Store app: Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Work Diary → Cancel. Your Pro features stay until the end of the period you've paid for.
Refunds. These are handled by Google, not by me. Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Budget & history → find the purchase → Report a problem.
The reminder isn't arriving.
First check notifications are allowed: Android Settings → Apps → Work Diary → Notifications.
If they are, the likely cause is battery optimisation. Many phones — particularly Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, Realme and OnePlus — stop background alarms aggressively. Find Work Diary in your battery settings and allow it to run in the background.
The reminder is also deliberately inexact by a few minutes, so it may arrive slightly after the time you set.
My entries disappeared after reinstalling.
If Android Backup was on, they should return automatically on first launch. If it was off, they're gone — Work Diary keeps nothing on any server, so there's no copy to restore from. Check Android Settings → System → Backup.
A scan came out crooked or cut off.
In the scanner, drag the corner handles onto the page before confirming. If the page is on a pale surface, the automatic edge detection has less to work with — putting the page on a darker background helps a lot.
The timesheet total doesn't look right.
Check your entry times, particularly the AM/PM on any entry made around noon or midnight. The duration shown beside each entry is the quickest way to spot one that's out.
Scan or Pro features aren't showing.
Both depend on Google Play services. If your device doesn't have them, those features are hidden rather than broken.
Work Diary stores everything on your device. There is no account, no server, and nothing is uploaded. I cannot see your entries and cannot recover them for you.
That's the trade: complete privacy, and complete responsibility for your own backup. Keep Android Backup on, and export a timesheet PDF for any period you'd hate to lose.

Feature requests are genuinely welcome — most of what's in the app came from people asking for it.
