I learned that people are too trusting of other people when it comes to private information. Most people are too relaxed. "Oh, it could never happen to me! I have different passwords and 2 factor authentication for every account I have!" I hear you saying to yourself. Trying using 2 factor authentication when you have your credit card, drivers license, and social security card stolen from you. That person is now you! Nobody ever thinks it can happen to them until it does and they're left a stressed out mess because they're never prepared for it.
For those of you who might not be to keen as to what the term "phishing" means I'll gladly clue you in. "Phishing" refers to the technique scammer use to try to obtain sensitive information. They send out email pretending to be someone you know in hopes of you downloading whatever shady file they may have attached to the message. This was the unfortunate situation the file sharing and cloud storage company "Dropbox" found themselves in earlier this month. The breach had been brought to their notice by GitHub after some suspicious activity was spotted on its account. The Hacker in question had access to the codes for over 130 repositories; thankfully it hadn't contained any of the code for the core application itself. Ironically this is the easiest type of scam to debunk as simply asking a coworker if they had actually sent them that email would've made it so this situation never occurred in the first place.

Jessica Roy had become a victim of "Identity fraud". A simple yet brutal scam that ruins entire lives. Such as in this case, Jessica was out at a bar the day after Thanksgiving 2018 when her wallet had been stolen. The next morning she called her bank and had been informed that multiple charges had been made to her card. From there she reported the stolen wallet to the local police, canceled all of her cards, had a new drivers license printed and had to update her bill payment methods. This wouldn't be the end however; she would receive multiple emails congratulating her on her applications to several different banks and several email change notifications. The thieves had even managed to rent and then crash a Tesla which would inadvertently get them caught. The best way to avoid this type of situation happening to you is to just keep your wallet close to you at all times. You can even invest in one of those ridge wallet that are pretty hard to lose.
