Learner Led Designs
Allowing students to grow in their skills through activities where they are using their own problem-solving skills to demonstrate the target standards is the goal within my plans for classes. Within the artifacts shown below are lessons that incorporate relevant texts for students to analyze. The science curriculum is inquiry-based and what I aimed to add were more opportunities for students to encounter concepts that they would need to describe and model. Much of the literature in the class is at a high level and can create challenges for student comprehension. Often activities that students can return to to review can provide the needed exposure to solidify a concept.
Designer
Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability. Educators:
5a
Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.
5b
Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and resources to maximize active, deep learning.
5c
Explore and apply instructional design principles to create innovative digital learning environments that engage and support learning.
Artifact 1 - CYBR834 Informational Technology Teaching Methods - Final Project (Summer 2021)
This project was incorporating lessons I had worked on previously during summer curriculum writing (see items "Station Card 1 Eclipses," "Station Card 2 Shapes of the moon," Station Card 3 Seasons," "SF1 Earth and Moon Lesson 1," and "SF1 Earth and Moon Lesson 2". The goal was to use coding ideas such as making algorithms to help student observe and analyze patterns within the movements of the solar system (see "CurrUnit Volz C834," "Planet Algorithm Project," and "GoFormative Study Jams"). The major changes to previous course work was to add in coding opportunities that would help build students computational thinking skills. I used instructional design principles in reviewing the academic goals and analyzing the study body that I would be serving. Understanding EL student would be navigating language and new technology issues, there are models, sentence frames, and rubrics to help aid students' understanding.
ISTE Standards for Students featured through lesson plans:
1.3 Knowledge Constructor
1.4 Innovative Designer
1.5 Computational Thinker

Artifact 2 - TE 805P Overview of Assistive Technology - Interactive Book Assignment (Fall 2021)
In the following project, I was tasked with creating a digital book that would provide multiple supports to students with disabilities. The initial pages of the PPT detail my the purpose and audience of the book. The book can be used by all the students I currently teach. It uses a district text that is below level reading for the age of the student, but at a level that can still be challenging for my EL students. This book is meant to be read multiple times so that students will be able to absorbs the ideas. The design choices of the text reflect a desire for a highly visible text for easy readability. Each page is provided with a recording reading the text and explaining any pictures for students with visual impairments.
