The competitive nature of the marching band program necessitates consistent attendance from all of our members. These policies are designed to be as fair as possible to the circumstances of individual students, while providing the best experience for all members. These policies remain in effect from day one of Band Camp through the end of the season.
Members are required to attend all rehearsals and performances.
Planned Absences: An excuse for any planned absence from a rehearsal or performance must be submitted to the director at least two weeks in advance of the absence via the ABSENCE REQUEST FORM. The director will decide whether to accept or reject the excuse based on validity. Students & parents may discuss the circumstances surrounding the excuse with the director prior to the date of the absence. A written excuse must include the reason for the upcoming absence.
Unforeseen Absences: Members who are absent due to to unforeseen medical or family-related emergencies must notify their section leader/staff and email the director with the reason for the absence.
4. Tardies: Members who arrive more than 5 minutes late to the rehearsal/performance site will be considered tardy for that rehearsal/performance.
5. Consequences: All members will abide by the following consequences concerning the attendance policy:
One Unexcused Absence = Warning from the director
Two Unexcused Absences = Email home to parents
Three Unexcused Absences = Member is removed from the group for the remainder of the season
3 Tardies = 1 Unexcused Absence
3 Excused Absences = 1 Unexcused Absence
In most cases, consecutive Excused Absences are treated as 1 Excused Absence, so long as the absences are for the same reason (ie: injury or illness)
