Marching Band Season is in progress! Color guard is a subsection of the Marching Band.
Refer to the Marching Band website.
Winter Guard season info will be provided in the Fall.
A color guard ensemble use flags, rifles, sabers, and sometimes other manipulated equipment in a choreographed routine. Elements of dance, acrobatics, and theatrics are also utilized. Overall the color guard is the visual representation of the music being played. Our color guard team is a section of the marching band in the fall.
Nicknamed the “Sport of the Arts”, Winter Guard is a highly athletic and highly competitive activity. It is like Color Guard, but indoors. Most groups will perform to pre-recorded music. Winter Guards start their season in the winter months and finish in the spring. There are local, regional, state, national, and international competitors, both scholastic and independent. Andy Nguyen began his ballet training at the Jensen Center for the Performing Arts studying the Cecchetti method. He continued to pursue ballet and modern dance in college at the University of California, Riverside under the direction of taisha paggett, where he developed his training in Martha Graham technique.
After earning his B.A. in Psychology, Andy returned to ballet and trained under the tutelage of Marny Trounson, a former Royal Ballet dancer under the direction of Sir Kenneth MacMillan and Sir Frederick Ashton. Andy danced as a Studio Company Artist with New Ballet San José and has had works created on him by choreographers such as Dalia Rawson, Keon Saghari, Mariana Sobral, Laura Burton and Erik Wagner.
He hopes to bring a blend of Cecchetti and ABT methods to the color guard program and create an enjoyable ballet experience!
