A native of Fort Worth, TX, Jason Paschall has always had a passion for music and for teaching. Jason earned a B.M. in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. During that time Jason won the university’s concerto/aria competition, received distinction as a Presser Scholar and was awarded the “Zelma Childers Outstanding College of Fine Arts Graduate Award.” During the summer of 2005, Jason toured the country marching with the then Division II drum and bugle corps the Blue Stars from La Crosse, WI. He then went on to march with the 19-time DCI World Champion Blue Devils drum and bugle corps from Concord, CA in the summer of 2006.Jason continued his studies at the University of Northern Colorado where he received his M.M. in oboe performance. He then completed an Artist’s Certificate in oboe performance from the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where he was the oboist for the UMKC Graduate Fellowship Woodwind Quintet. Jason then went on to pursue studies towards a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in oboe performance at the University of North Texas, where he held a teaching fellowship from 2014-15. During his time at UNT, Jason was a member of the university’s Wind Symphony under the direction of Eugene Corporon. In this ensemble, Jason took part in recording works for band under the GIA record label in their Windworks project, and their Teaching Music through Performance in Band series among others. In 2013, Jason became the oboist for the Madera Wind Quintet - a chamber group of professional musicians that live across Colorado, Texas, and Ohio. In his tenure with Madera, he has toured, taught, and performed across Texas and Colorado, including performances at the 2015 TMEA and the 2016 CMEA Conventions. In October of 2015, Madera released their second album, Five Piece Combo under the Ravello Records label. The album features the three woodwind quintets of American composer Don Gillis (1912-78). Over the years Jason has performed with several symphonies in the Colorado/Wyoming area as well as with the Kansas City and Fort Worth Symphonies. More recently in the DFW area, he served a one-year appointment as the Principal Oboist with the Las Colinas, Arlington and Garland Symphonies for the 2015-16 season, and continued to play oboe and english horn with these ensembles, the Irving Symphony, and the San Angelo Symphony through 2017. Jason is currently the director of bands for Monte Vista School District, grades 5-12. He teaches concert band, marching band, and jazz band at both Monte Vista Middle and High Schools, as well as 5th-Grade Band at Bill Metz Elementary(Spring only). Under his tutelage the Monte Vista High School Marching band were Class-1A Champions at the 2018 Legend Marching Festival, Class-1A Champions at the 2018 Colorado Southern Regional Marching Contest, and 2nd Place in Class-1A at the 2018 Colorado State Marching Competition. In the fall of 2019, the Pirate Marching Band were Class-1A Champions at the 2019 Colorado West Marching Competition, placed 2nd at the 2019 Colorado Southern Regional Marching Contest, and were Class-1A State Champions at the 2019 Colorado State Marching Contest. When he’s not teaching, Jason likes to cook, ride his bike, and spend time with his cat George.
