Concert

First semester, you will be placed in either the freshmen-sophomore band or the junior-senior band. No auditions required, just show up.

Second semester, however, you may audition to be in Wind Ensemble or you will be in the Symphonic Band. If you choose to do Percussion Ensemble, you will stay there all year.

Symphonic Band

The Symphonic band is directed by Mr. Plummer. The band plays less difficult pieces than the Wind Ensemble but still makes great music.

Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble requires an audition to perform in. The audition is in video form, it is not live. You will need to play an All-State etude, two scales, and a chromatic scale. Mr. Heid will announce the materials in December, when auditions occur. Though auditions determine the band you will participate in, lesson attendance determines placement.

The Wind Ensemble puts on an additional concert, the Ensemble Showcase. This concert consists of small groups of like instruments performing individually prepared pieces. (This has Not happened in recent years because of Covid).

Percussion Ensemble

Percussion Ensemble is a relatively new class at the high school for percussionists who want to be challenged more than they would be in either band. It occurs instead of, or with, concert band but is in a different period. The percussion ensemble plays at the concert as their own band, playing pieces composed specifically for percussionists.

To take the class,  you must be a percussionist in marching band. You will be expected to perform at least one solo and you will perform in the Ensemble Concert with the Wind Ensemble. The music difficulty increases throughout the year and potential members should be prepared to work hard.
