A large portion of this class was noting how music has the ability to transform. This transformation is dependent on how music is perceived and the context of where the piece comes from and how it is being played (for example, music in theaters is perceived differently than music played in the street). Ultimately, music is subjective and when we travel to other countries, it can change how we see and appreciate music. We have been exposed to new styles and traditions that opened our minds and they made us think differently about music as different places each have unique musical traditions that represent their culture and history. So, our surroundings and experiences can shape how we understand and feel about music.
