The "Munting Saribuhay" Symposium is an online event featuring a colorful amalgamation of representative taxa from microbiology, plant biology and animal biology. Different taxa from these three fields of Biology will be discussed by invited speakers. A collection of photos and gallery of e-posters will be exhibited as laboratory outputs by BS Biology sophomore students taking Fundamentals of Systematics.
The Mabini campus (a.k.a. main campus) of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, located at Santa Mesa, Manila has pockets of greenery that provides a fragmented yet critical habitat for the remaining insect pollinators, native weedy angiosperms and seasonal macrofungi. These organisms form just a fraction of Munting Saribuhay, a diminutive or mini biodiversity within the main campus.
Though small, it still represents a rich biodiversity for Santa Mesa, Manila found within a school campus, which was aimed by this online symposium to be celebrated through a virtual showcase of captivating photographs and scientific e-posters about insects, vascular plants, and fungi enabling deeper understanding and appreciation of the ecological roles of these fascinating organisms in our ecosystem.
This symposium also serves as a supplemental educational platform for basic education students and the scientific community to inspire further curiosity, fostering a stronger connection with nature and igniting a passion for scientific research and conservation among students and participants. It also inculcates the value of systematics in comprehending the intricate web of life and its application in scientific research, encouraging participants to cherish and protect the diverse life forms that thrive within the main campus of our Sintang Paaralan.
