MTSS is a proactive framework of tiered instruction and support for all students. We think about MTSS as a triangle with three “tiers.” Every scholar at RISE will fall somewhere on the MTSS triangle—either Tier 1, 2, or 3. MTSS is not a curriculum, but a way to think through how to best intervene and provide resources and interventions for scholars who are struggling with reading, math, or behavior. The MTSS framework is comprised of four essential components: universal screening, multi-level prevention system, progress monitoring, and data-based decision making.

Progress monitoring will occur every 10 days for Tier 3 scholars and every 20 days for Tier 2 scholars. Progress Monitoring tools: iReady Growth monitoring, mClass, Skills Block assessments, NC Check-ins, iReady Teacher Toolbox
Frequent data analysis will aid in monitoring progress, adjusting instruction, and determining effectiveness of interventions and instruction.

Typically provided to small groups of scholars.

Serves scholars who continue to struggle despite Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction and supports.
Provides the most intensive, individualized supports.
A team uses data and formal assessments to develop an individualized student plan.
