HYPERSONIC VEHICLE THERMAL MANAGEMENT

Sharp leading edges are a critical design aspect for high-lift-to-drag-ratio hypersonic vehicles. However, significant aerodynamic heating of sharp bodies presents major engineering challenges. Current passive heat shielding and ablation technologies cannot sufficiently and reliably withstand severe aerodynamic heating while maintaining the sharp leading edge for extended flights.

Our research aims to develop novel thermal management systems and strategies to tackle these issues.
