My name is Kinsey Welsh and my pronouns are they/them. You can call me Welsh! Or Mx. Welsh if you prefer, either is good. I am starting my 6th year teaching at Perry H.S. and teach AP Physics and Robotics. I graduated from NAU with a degree in astrophysics and a degree in physics secondary education. I love space, crafts, and learning!
As a science teacher, I think seeing leads to understanding. Although COVID-19 may impact the ability to do lab experiments and demonstrations, I will still strive to provide visual learning experiences that help explain the natural world. We will be focusing on explaining the motion of objects with appropriate physics vocabulary, math, graphs/drawings, and sentences.
I think the word I want to focus on this year is intent. I want everything we do in the class to have a clear, distinct purpose. I want all the problems and experiments you do to help teach you, give more depth of understanding, and provide practice. I also hope that you, dear student, will also be intentional in my class. You know your mind and needs best so I hope you will be honest with yourself on how much practice or help you need so that you seek it.
Robotics is a fun and engaging, hands-on class that will provide students opportunities to learn and hone 21st century skills and compete against other students in various competitions. There are many skills that students will hopefully gain by going through this class but some of the biggest are cooperation and communication.
First semester we learn some robotics basics and have our district-wide competition - the CO2 Dragster Competition. Second semester students will work in smaller groups on designing and buildinging a ~120lb. robot. It is my hope that through taking this class, students will have fun, learn valuable skills, and have experiences that will benefit them.
I use Remind to communicate with students about due dates, share important links, and provide resources. Students may also communicate with me without sharing private information. I highly recommend that students download the Remind app.
