Physics is all about the what, how, and why of motion. We have discussed a manner of linear and 2-D motion, and we will be moving onto discussing rotational motion! This unit we will be analyzing systems with rotating and rolling objects.
Topics we will cover in this unit:
Rotational Kinematics Torque Rotational Kinetic Energy Angular Momentum Rotational Inertia
By the end of the unit, the student should be able to:
Apply the 1-D and 2-D kinematics equations to rotational kinematics with the new rotational kinematic variables.
Use a combination of forces and torques to analyze static and dynamic systems.
Include rotational kinetic energy when analyzing systems with energy.
Understand how the distribution of mass affects the motion of an object.
Use angular momentum to make predictions about the motion of an object when the distribution of mass of that object changes.
