Process Flow Diagram
The Process Flow Diagram shown to the left describes the physical layout and transition from each step in the design solution.
PET plastic feeds through the shredder entrance, where it is shredded to smaller pieces usable for energy conversion
The plastic pieces feed into the washing and ferrofluid system, where a sieve separates the desired large pieces on top from the undesired microplastics on bottom
Soap and water is pumped into the system and the mixer turned on to wash off contaminants from all plastic pieces
Washed larger plastic pieces are removed with the sieve to be used for pyrolysis
Ferrofluid is added to system with mixer turned on, then electromagnets turned on to attract microplastics
Ladles holding magnets are removed with microplastics, leaving clean water to be drained and reused back into system
