Whether you're heading home for break or just looking to get out of East Lansing for the weekend, here are a few transportation options that many MSU Law students use.
If you're flying out of Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) but don't have a car, the Michigan Flyer is your best friend. It runs several trips each day between East Lansing and DTW, has free Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, and plenty of room for luggage. It's reliable, affordable, and a lot of MSU students use it when traveling home.

Capital Region International Airport (LAN) is only about 15 to 20 minutes from campus, so it's a super convenient option. Every once in a while, you can find a really good deal flying out of Lansing. Just keep in mind that most flights have a connection, usually through Chicago (ORD) or Detroit (DTW).
If your layover is in Chicago, you'll usually have to change terminals, and sometimes those layovers are pretty short. If you have the option, try to give yourself a little extra time between flights.
Amtrak
Looking for a fun weekend trip? The Amtrak Blue Water line stops right in East Lansing and goes directly to Chicago. It's an easy way to spend a weekend in the city without worrying about traffic, parking, or driving home.

Ann Arbor is an easy day trip if you need a break from studying. You can take the Michigan Flyer from East Lansing and spend the day exploring coffee shops, restaurants, bookstores, or downtown before heading back that evening.
Detroit is about 90 minutes away and is great for concerts, sporting events, museums, and amazing food. If you don't have a car, there are also bus options that make it an easy weekend trip.
Grand Rapids is another fun weekend destination with breweries, festivals, and one of the best downtown areas in Michigan.
If you're planning to fly home for Thanksgiving, winter break, or spring break, try to book your flights early. Prices around university breaks go up fast, especially out of Lansing and Detroit, and the cheapest flights usually don't last long.
