Implementing Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD) influences the planning and delivery of instruction I will teach in my lessons. The use of GLAD to support English Language Learners. This approach aligns with the broader goal of preparing students, including ELLs, to be influential, literate citizens in a global society. The district I was student teaching in, emphasis on GLAD, reinforces the use of high-level thinking, academic language, and cross-cultural skills for all students. The school commits to a diverse and inclusive learning environment that provides a foundation for implementing a balanced literacy approach.
Some of the GLAD strategies I utilized during my student teaching experience were interactive Read Alouds, collaborative Shared Reading, direct Reading Mini-lessons, independent reading with “Just Right” books (leveled books), teacher-student Conferencing, differentiated Small Group Work, and varied Assessments (both formative and summative).
