What is Whiteboard.fi?

Whiteboard.fi is a great, user friendly website that teachers can use in their classroom and at home. The website allows teachers to create a "whiteboard" on which they can pose a question (or questions) for students to answer. Once sent to students, the whiteboard serves as a blank canvas for students to answer the question and the teacher can see the responses from each individual student. This resource is great because it allows a teacher to easily create a platform for students to submit their work, and it does not require an account to be made. Teachers should take advantage of this resource for both homework assignments as well as in-class work. It could be especially useful if used during this time of virtual learning!

How I used Whiteboard.fi

I used Whiteboard.fi to create an activity for Kindergarteners to complete. The activity goes along with the Kindergarten social studies standard "K.E.1.1 Explain how families have needs and wants." This activity asks students to draw a picture of something they consider a need and something they consider a want. Whiteboard.fi is a great tool to use for an activity like this becuse it has a drawing feature that allows students to draw pictures as well as input text. For younger grades, the drawing feature is especially helpful because they may not know how to type yet. Once I created my whiteboard with the question, I was able to "push" it out to students and allow them to respond to it. Students simply need to be given the access link and then write in their name to begin responding to the activity. That is one of whiteboard.fi's greatest featues, you do not need to create an account to use its resources. It is quick and easy!

Responses and Feedback

Once the white board is sent out to students, they are given the opportunity to respond. Students can use a variety of features to respond. They can use the drawing tool, the text box tool, shape tool, and there is even a tool that allows students to insert photos. If students prefer to create their responses on a piece of paper, they can take a photo of it and then insert it onto the whiteboard. For upper grades, there are also math tool features that allow students to insert math symbols easily. Once responses are recorded, teachers can save them as a PDF (as seen to the left) and it labels each response with the name of the student that completed it. Teachers can save these PDF files and use them for grading and feedback. I definitely recommend Whiteboard.fi to teachers. It can be a very useful tool if implemented into the classroom. It can save teachers time and resources by allowing them to send assignments to students without having to print anything out. It also allows teachers to have all students responses located in one place, so they do not have to worry about students misplacing their assignments and not turning them in!
