What is Google Forms?

Google Forms is great resource for teachers to use when assessing their students on content taught in the classroom. Teachers are able to use Google Forms to create fun and interactive quizzes for their students. The site is very user friendly, and allows teachers to incorporate pictures and videos into their quiz. Once The teacher has created a quiz, they can send it out to their students and Google Forms keeps track of the results. This will save teachers a lot of time when it comes to grading, and it also allows them to have the students progress organized in one place. I highly recommend this program for all teachers, and it can be used inside the classroom or at home!

What I Created

I used Google Forms to make a ten question Kindergarten math quiz assessing students on their counting an comparing abilities. However, this quiz was different than your typical multiple choice quiz. Google Forms allows teachers to make their quizzes engaging by having the ability to use pictures and videos throughout. I created some questions that had photos for students to refer to while answering the question, and some questions that had photos as answers. This gives students the opportunity to see the content in different contexts and assesses them on their ability to recognize the content in different ways. Google Forms offers many different resources for teachers to use when creating their quizzez, they can make certain questions optional or required, add multiple choice options or make the questions free response answers. Student also have the ability to upload files for their answers such as photos and PDF's. These features could be especially helpful in the older grades!

Collecting Data and Results

Another awesome feature that Google Forms has to offer is its ability to collect data from the quizzes. It automatically grades multiple choice questions and saves the responses from everyone that took the quiz. All the data can be accessed on Google Forms and the teacher can see how each individual student performed on the quiz and what their answers are. It also divides the data based on each individual question, so the teacher can see how the class performed overall in specific areas. For example, the second picture on the left you can see how the class peformed on questoin #6 of my quiz. It shows how many people selected each particular option on that multiple chouce question. This is helpful for teachers because if they see that a majority of the class got the wrong answer on a particular question, then the teacher would know what areas the students still need to work on. Teachers also have the ability to give their students feeback directly on Google Forms. They can give feedback after each question and correct any errors if necessary!

Counting and Comparing! (Responses)

Another fantastic feature that Google Forms has is the ability to transfer all of the quiz data directly on to a Google Sheets page. Google sheets is similar to Excel, it organizes data on a grid so it is easier for the viewer to process and access the information. This can be a great resource for teachers to use because it allows them to easily store and organize the data from the quizzes, and keep track of each individual student and their scores/progress. Google Sheets allows users to costumize their spreadsheets to be more reader freindly. As seen in the example above, I alternated the color of each row and also changed the size of the collums to fit the words and scores instead of it all being on one line. I highly reccommend Google Forms and Google Sheets to teachers of any grade, even High School! It is a great resource that is easy to use for the teacher and the students!
