Develop proficiency in the performance and interpretation of emergency ultrasound examinations
Achieve credentialing eligibility in Emergency Ultrasound
Integrate emergency ultrasound in patient care decision making
The majority of your time will be spent doing hands-on scanning with the members of the ultrasound division. Time for independent scanning will be allotted and you will be responsible for obtaining a minimum number of scans determined by Dr. Yetter (Approx 15-20 scans/day).
You will attend the ultrasound division meeting on Thursday to review scans and present a brief 5-minute presentation on an interesting scan from the week. This presentation will be saved to be used during conference Ultrasound Image of the Month.
On Friday you will have an OSCE where you will take a brief H&P on a standardized patient and perform a real-time ultrasound study and answer real-time questions about your scans. Make sure you get plenty of practice performing various scans throughout the week so you are equipped for whatever patient presentation you are given.
Please use the GRAY top Sani-Cloths to clean the ultrasound machines. Both Operations Managers for Luke's and West are aware and will continue to procure GRAY top wipes for the sole purpose of cleaning our ultrasound machines. DO NOT use these GRAY top wipes for any other reason as they have to be separately ordered.
PLEASE remember to clean all ultrasound machines when you are done using them. This includes cleaning up the cups attached to machine and removing any extra unused needles or supplies.
Diagnostic studies can only be performed with credentialed attendings
Educational scans can be performed and submitted on Q-path E without an attending name
There are NO undocumented phantom or "quick look" scans
You are expected to attend Wednesday EM conference.
You can text Yetter at any time with questions. Really. She does not sleep.
Use this opportunity to master the scans you have difficulty with!
