Your student will show two ways to arrange 9 photos on 2 pages of an album.
Help your student cut out 9 small rectangles of paper to represent his 9 photos.
Give your student one piece of paper folded in half. Have him arrange his 9 pictures on both sides of the paper. Then ask him the following questions. Be sure to take notes on what your student says to submit with his portfolio item.
How many pictures did you put on each page? 4 and 5, 6 and 3, etc.
How many pictures do you have altogether? 9
What number sentence represents the pictures on both pages? 4 + 5 = 9, 6 + 3 = 9, etc. Please include this with your picture
Why did you choose to arrange your pictures this way? Because I know ___ and ___ are two numbers that add up to 9.
Take a photo of the arrangement or record the arrangement in a drawing, including the number sentences
