The artifacts below display my exploration of diversity in the classroom and how we as educators support every student.
While looking at the idea of equity, I researched and wrote a paper about how the COVID-19 pandemic affected equity in Hong Kong in the form of digital divide. This artifact demonstrated not only my research skills but also how I utilize research to better understand equity. It also demonstrated how I can use research to better understand my students, even if I am new to their culture and the country. My hope is that this paper will show you how the lack of equity can be seen in various areas but also how us teachers can support and bridge the gap.
After learning about how to create more authentic or high-interest math learning activities, I was inspired to incorporate a variety of my students' interest, such as Minecraft, Fortnight, and Pokemon, to create a learning activity on coordinate planes using Google slides. When I implemented this activity, I noticed that students who normally viewed themselves as "bad at math" were highly engaged in the activity and were collaborating with their friends, such as "I will look for this Pokemon, so you look for..." This artifact demonstrates my technological skills and ability to create a learning activity that incorporates student interest.
